Privacy Policy
This policy explains what the Steel Peak app does with your information. Steel Peak is made by an independent developer in Texas, USA. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean the developer of Steel Peak.
The short version
- Your training, nutrition and health information stays on your iPhone. There's no Steel Peak account, and we don't run servers that receive your data.
- We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps and websites.
- Anything Steel Peak reads from Apple Health is only shown to you in the app. It's never sold, never used for advertising, never shared and never stored in iCloud.
- A few features look things up on the internet, such as a food barcode. These lookups never include your name or your health data.
- If you subscribe, Apple handles the payment. We never see your payment details, and your subscription is checked on your iPhone.
What Steel Peak stores on your iPhone
Steel Peak keeps the following information in its own storage on your iPhone. We can't see it.
- Your profile: the details you enter during setup and in Profile. That covers your first name, age, sex, height and weight, goals, training experience and schedule, where you train and what equipment you have, and dietary preferences. It also includes any health conditions or injuries you choose to tell Steel Peak about, and your state and city if you entered them (newer versions of the app no longer ask).
- Training: your plans, workouts, sets, reps, weights, effort ratings and notes. For outdoor walks and runs, the time and total distance. Also other activities you log, your points, streaks and progress on the in-app mountain climb, and a history of the changes the coach made to your plan.
- Nutrition: the foods and meals you log, meal plans, water and supplements.
- Body weight entries.
- Daily check-in answers: how you slept and how tired, stressed and sore you feel, plus any pain or limitation you report.
- How you use the app: for example which features you open and which suggestions you accept, so Steel Peak can adapt its coaching to you. This never leaves your iPhone.
- Settings: units, appearance, reminders and the optional Face ID lock.
- A crash log: if the app closes unexpectedly, a short technical log is kept on your iPhone (at most 512 KB). It's never sent automatically. You decide whether to share it.
What Steel Peak sends over the internet, and why
These are the only internet services the app contacts. None of these requests includes your name, your health or fitness data, or any identifier from us.
Open Food Facts (openfoodfacts.org)
- When
- You scan a food barcode.
- What is sent
- The barcode number.
- Why
- To find the product's name and nutrition values.
Hugging Face (huggingface.co)
- When
- After you first set up the app, Steel Peak downloads your coach's on-device model in the background, on Wi-Fi only unless you allow mobile data. You can pause or delete it any time in Profile → Storage.
- What is sent
- Requests for the model files (about 1 GB). Nothing about you or your training.
- Why
- To put the model on your iPhone. It then runs on the iPhone itself.
As with any internet request, these services receive your device's IP address and basic technical details, such as the app and iOS version. Each service handles that under its own privacy policy, and we don't control them.
Searching for a food by name uses a food database built into the app (USDA FoodData Central). It works offline and sends nothing.
When you subscribe or restore a purchase, iOS contacts Apple's App Store. That's handled by Apple, not by us.
Subscriptions and purchases
Steel Peak Premium is sold through the App Store. Apple processes every purchase, free trial, renewal, cancellation and refund, and handles your payment details under its own privacy policy. We never see or store your card details, billing address or Apple Account details.
To know whether your subscription is active, Steel Peak reads the App Store's transaction and subscription status on your iPhone: which plan you have, when a trial or period ends, whether it will renew, and whether a purchase was refunded. This check happens on your iPhone and isn't sent to us. We don't run a server that receives it.
There's still no Steel Peak account. Restore Purchases asks the App Store for your existing subscription. To cancel or change your plan, go to Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone, or use Manage subscription in the app.
If your subscription ends, your information stays on your iPhone. Your data rights don't depend on a subscription: you can always export it or delete it from the paywall's "Your data" link.
Apple Health
- It's optional. You can connect Apple Health in Profile → Apple Health and choose what to allow on Apple's permission screen. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Steel Peak, or in the Health app.
- What Steel Peak reads: your step count, to show your daily activity, and your sleep, heart rate variability and resting heart rate, to show your recovery and help plan your sleep.
- What Steel Peak writes: the body weight you log in Steel Peak, so it also appears in Apple Health.
- Workout sessions: during a workout, Steel Peak can run a workout session so your timers and sounds keep going while your iPhone is locked or you're in another app. This needs your permission for workouts in Apple Health. Your iPhone itself doesn't save workouts to Apple Health.
- How it's used: data read from Apple Health is only displayed to you. Steel Peak doesn't save it, send it anywhere, sell it, share it, or use it for advertising, marketing or data mining. Steel Peak never stores Apple Health data in iCloud.
Other permissions
Steel Peak asks for each of these only when you first use the feature. You can turn any of them off later in the iPhone Settings app.
- Camera: to scan food barcodes. The camera is used only to read the barcode on your iPhone. No photos are taken or saved.
- Location (only while using the app): to measure distance during an outdoor walk or run that you start. Steel Peak saves only the time and total distance, not your route, and never sends your location anywhere.
- Motion sensors: during a workout, the iPhone's motion sensors help count reps and estimate tempo. The readings are processed on your iPhone. Only the workout results are kept.
- Apple Music and media: to show and control the music that's playing during a workout. Song details are read on your iPhone only.
- Face ID: for the optional app lock. iOS handles your face data, and Steel Peak only learns whether unlocking succeeded.
- Your watch: if you use the Steel Peak watch app, your watch and iPhone exchange workout details, such as the current exercise and rep counts, directly with each other. Motion readings from the watch are processed on the watch. When you track a sport game on your watch, it reads your heart rate and active energy to show them during the game, and saves the game to Apple Health as a workout with its active energy. Heart rate and energy stay on the watch; your iPhone gets the score and the time played.
- Lock Screen and timer sounds: Steel Peak can show your workout on the Lock Screen and play timer sounds in the background. Both work on your iPhone only.
- Notifications: for reminders you switch on. They're scheduled on your iPhone; we don't run a notification server.
Steel Peak doesn't use your microphone, contacts or photos, or your advertising identifier.
Coaching on your iPhone
Your plan, its adjustments and the coach's suggestions are worked out by Steel Peak on your iPhone. None of it is sent to us or to an AI service.
Steel Peak can also download an AI language model (Llama 3.2, about 1.8 GB) from Hugging Face. The model runs entirely on your iPhone. What you ask it and what it answers are not sent anywhere.
Analytics, crash reports and feedback
- Steel Peak contains no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting services from other companies.
- If you choose Send Feedback or Share Crash Report, Steel Peak opens the iPhone share sheet with a pre-filled report. The report contains the app version, your iPhone model and iOS version, your plan's name, your training days per week, your units and, if there is one, the crash log. You can edit it, choose how to send it, or not send it. If you send it to us, we use it only to help you and to fix problems.
- If you've turned on Share With App Developers (Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements), Apple may share crash reports and usage statistics with us in a form that doesn't identify you. Apple handles this.
Children
Steel Peak isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you think a child has sent us personal information, for example by email, contact us and we'll delete it.
Keeping and deleting your information
- Your information stays on your iPhone until you delete it. Deleting the Steel Peak app deletes its data from your iPhone.
- If you back up your iPhone with iCloud Backup or to a computer, iOS may include Steel Peak's data in that backup. Some sensitive items, such as your daily check-in answers, are excluded from backups. Apple and you manage those backups.
- Weight that Steel Peak saved to Apple Health stays in the Health app until you delete it there.
- You can erase all Steel Peak data on your iPhone in Profile → Reset all data.
- Backup files you export from Steel Peak (Profile → Data and backup) are yours. Delete them wherever you saved them.
- We keep emails you send us only as long as we need them to help you and to keep a record of the conversation.
Security
- Steel Peak stores its data using iOS Data Protection, which encrypts it when your iPhone is locked. Use a passcode to get this protection.
- Your daily check-in answers and some readiness details are kept in a separate protected file that is excluded from backups.
- You can add a Face ID lock in Profile.
- Every connection the app makes uses encryption (HTTPS).
- Exported backup files are protected while they wait to be shared, and are removed from temporary storage afterwards.
No system is perfectly secure. But because your data isn't sent to us, it can't be exposed in a breach of our systems.
Your rights
Everyone
- See and correct your information in the app.
- Get a copy with Profile → Data and backup → Export my data.
- Delete it in Profile → Reset all data or by deleting the app, and remove Health data in the Health app.
- Withdraw permissions at any time in the iPhone Settings app.
- Export or delete your data at any time, with or without a subscription (on the paywall: Your data).
- Ask us about anything we hold about you (normally only emails you've sent us), or ask us to delete it.
United States
We don't sell or share your personal information. We don't use it for targeted advertising or profiling, and we don't collect consumer health data. Depending on your state, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to correct it and to delete it. We won't treat you differently for using these rights.
European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, move and object to the processing of your personal data. You can also complain to your local data protection authority. Your app data is on your iPhone, so you can exercise most of these rights directly in the app. For anything else, email us. We handle emails you send us because we have a legitimate interest in answering you. The controller of that information is the developer of Steel Peak, reachable at the email below.
To make a request, email privacy@steelpeakfitness.com. We'll answer within the time the law requires.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here and update the effective date. If a change is significant, we'll also tell you in the app or in the App Store release notes.
